Baby food is any food, other than breastmilk or infant formula, that is made specifically for infants, roughly between the ages of four months to two years. The food comes in multiple varieties and tastes, can be produced by many manufacturers, or may be table food that the rest of the family is eating, mashed up. Because infants lack teeth, many different baby foods are designed for ease of eating; they are either a soft, liquidy paste or an easily chewed food.
Phase 1: Beginning Our Project on Babies
We had been centering our classroom planning and activities around the children’s interests in Project Based Learning. We discussed many possible project topics, but after weeks of documentation based on observations, conversations, and questions from the children, we decided that the topic of babies would be a beneficial one for a class project. In January 18th, the Baby Project emerged.
First Topic: Introduction (18 January 2011)
We started by asking the children what they knew about babies. Some of the words and concepts they knew were milk, baby food, bottle, diaper, and blankets.

Making Discoveries (21 February 2011)
Our teachers supplied many of the materials for this project. The materials were readily available because they have a small child at home. Teacher explained the proper functions of each item. The children began their investigations by exploring supplies needed to take care of babies; they studied all of these items in great detail.
On this day, we brought the real baby clothes into the classroom, the children take turn to look at them. Teacher Gurmit showed the proper way to wear diaper and baby clothes for the baby.

Some children were nervous but some just loved to carry a baby!
